Violence Erupts in Manipur: Five Civilians Killed in Separate Attacks

Northeast Desk, 19th January: Unknown armed miscreants on January 18 unleashed a wave of violence in Manipur, resulting in the death of five civilians in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, four farmers, including a father and son, were shot dead around 3:45 pm at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou under Bishnupur district.

The victims were identified as Oinam Bamonjao (63), Oinam Manitomba (37), Thiyam Somendro (53), and Ningthoujam Nabadeep.

Armed miscreants reportedly traveled over 2 km from Lamlai Kabui village to a water supply plant in the middle of paddy fields, where they allegedly killed the four civilians.

In a separate incident in Kangchup, Kangpokpi district, a village volunteer lost his life during a gunfight. The deceased, identified as Takhellambam Manoranjan (28), and at least three others were injured.

The gunfight erupted after suspected armed miscreants attacked Kangchup from adjoining hill areas, prompting village volunteers to retaliate.

Condemning the killings, a large number of people took to the streets, staging a protest at Ningthoukhong. The incidents have raised concerns about the escalating violence and security challenges in the region.
