Violence in Manipur: Assam Rifles Jawan Injured While Defusing IED

National Desk, 12 May: An Assam Rifles jawan suffered minor wounds while attempting to diffuse an explosive in the Saiton village of the Bishnupur district.

According to reports, an Assam Rifles OR suffered a slight injury while neutralizing an IED that had been identified nearby in the village of Saiton at around 4:15 AM.

In Tronglaobi Makha Liekai, which is part of Manipur’s Bishnupur district earlier on May 11, security forces and Kuki insurgents who were on Suspension of Operation (SoO) engaged in combat.

Five other Sipoys were injured in the fierce firing which claimed the life of one security guard, Hiesnam Jiten Singh who was carrying a rifle with the serial number 05197150.

According to reports, the SoO militants also suffered with two members of their cadre being injured. The prolonged firing went on for several hours, causing panic among the locals In the area.

The deceased soldier’s body was sent for a postmortem inspection while the injured Sipoys were promptly taken to various hospitals for medical care.
