Violence in Manipur: At least 56 People Confirmed Dead, Death Toll Expected to Rise
National Desk, 8 May: The number of people killed in the ongoing violence in Manipur has risen to 56 with official data still pending. And the precise number of fatalities in Manipur’s several violent incidents have not been yet established.
According to reports, there is a chance in the rise death toll.
Even after the’shoot-at-sight’ order was put into place, the ongoing communal conflict between the Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur only grew worse.
The Army opened fire at teenagers on May 5 in order to maintain law and order amid the continuous unrest in the hill state of Manipur.
According to local accounts, the ST row has caused emotional distress among residents of Manipur’s eight districts including Bishnupur district.
A group of youth protested by coming out of their home on May 5 at around 11 PM but the soldiers opened fire on them to bring peace to the area.
Following this, a young person reportedly died from his injuries becoming the first fatality since the government issued orders to “shoot at sight.”
