Violence in Manipur: Under Constant Aerial Surveillance by Security Forces
National Desk, 8 May: Over 100 columns of the Army and Assam Rifles have been working nonstop for the past 96 hours or more to greatly improve the surveillance capability in Manipur. On the other hand, the security forces in Manipur which has been devastated by violence have increased their use of aircraft assets.
The security forces were informed through a press release that Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Helicopters in particular have been put to use for surveillance not only in the hinterland but also along the Indo Myanmar Border.
The press communiqué further reads, “Use of the third dimension is of utmost importance in modern military warfare. It gives the security forces a major edge to not only carry out effective surveillance of anti-national elements but also target elements that may harm important installations.”
The use of these resources is thus significantly enhancing the Army’s and Assam Rifles’ effectivenessg which is demonstrated on the ground in Manipur not only in the hinterland but also for control of the Indo-Myanmar Border to thwart any misadventure attempts by Manipur Valley-Based Insurgent Groups residing across in various camps, according to the security forces.
Two helplines have been made available by the Assam Police for residents of the state who are stranded in the violent Manipur. The Assam Police have provided the helpline numbers 1079 and 1070.
According to reports, a special squad of police officers is keeping an eye on the situation and will offer whatever assistance that they can. Additionally, three days ago, a different team of authorities also travelled to Manipur.
