Violent Clashes at Assam-Tripura Border Leave Two Cops Injured
Guwahati, 2nd September: Violent clashes erupted at the Assam-Tripura border on Saturday, leaving two police officers injured. The incident occurred at the check post in Kathaltali, and it was sparked by a conflict over illegal smuggling activities at the state border.
Reports suggest that unidentified miscreants attacked Assam Police personnel and others at the check post in Kathaltali. Allegations have emerged that criminal groups engaged in illegal teak wood smuggling damaged the barricades at the border on Friday night. Additionally, accusations have been directed at the Tripura Police for their involvement in illegal teak wood trade across the borders.
Local residents of Kathaltali have also claimed that during the nighttime hours, various illegal items, including wood and betel nut (supari), are smuggled from Assam into Tripura through the check post.
