Voting to Elect 15th President of India Underway

Guwahati: Voting to choose a new president of India commenced in the Parliament and the appropriate State Legislative Assemblies at 10 am on Monday.

NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu is contesting against Yashwant Sinha, the joint opposition candidate.

Everything is set up for free and fair elections. Members of Parliament will cast their ballots inside a polling place that has been set up on the grounds of the Parliament. The Returning Officer for this election is the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha.

The security measures in and around the Parliament and particularly at the polling place have been stepped up.

A total of 776 MPs and 4,033 MLAs will vote in the Presidential elections today. Polling will continue till 5 pm.

Counting of votes will take place on July 21 and the new President will take oath on July 25.

Members of the Electoral College made up of elected Members of Parliament (MP) and representatives from the state Assemblies, elect the President.
