“Wanted Rhino Poacher” arrested in Biswanath

Guwahati: A person wanted for his alleged involvement in several poaching and rhino horn along with illegal cattle trade cases has been arrested by the state forest department on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Rasidul Haque alias Meeru.

According to reports, Rasidul spent the last three years hiding out in Kerala. He is accused of being involved in a poaching incident that happened in the Kaziranga National Park in 2018.

Reportedly, Rasidul, who had been on the run for a while, is said to have arrived in Assam and was hiding in a “Tongi-ghar” (shed) at a “beel” (wetland), which is said to be 1.5 kilometres from his home.

Two local boys from the area were reportedly staying with him for his security.

Meanwhile, the forest department has launched an operation to apprehend numerous other of Rashidul’s fugitive collaborators.
