Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated three multi-level parking facilities in Itanagar, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and provide designated parking spaces for city residents.

The projects, valued at Rs 60 crore, include a 108-capacity Multi-Level Automated Car Parking at the Civil Secretariat, along with two multi-storied parking facilities at ESS Sector and APSTS Bus Station, Ganga Market.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Urban Development Minister Balo Raja, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Tamme Phassang, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, Chief Engineer of the Urban Development Department Taring Darang, and CEO of Smart City Development Corporation Dahey Sangno. The presence of key officials underscored the significance of the initiative in enhancing urban infrastructure.

Dahey Sangno, CEO of Smart City Development Corporation, highlighted that these parking facilities are part of a broader Smart City initiative, with two projects executed by the Urban Development (UD) Department. The automated car parking at the Civil Secretariat, implemented by NHIDCL and executed by SIMPARK, features a 108-vehicle capacity across ten floors—including four underground and six above ground levels.

Additionally, the structure includes a gym and cafeteria on the terrace, offering modern amenities for Civil Secretariat staff and officers. The ₹18.09 crore project is designed to provide long-term parking solutions, easing parking challenges in the area.

Chief Engineer Taring Darang elaborated on the other two projects, which were sanctioned in September 2017 under the Social Infrastructure Development Fund (Ministry of DoNER). The ESS Sector facility offers 143 parking slots, while the APSTS Bus Station at Ganga Market features a four-level (G+5) structure with a 100-car capacity, providing critical infrastructure to alleviate roadside parking.

Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso and IMC Mayor Tamme Phassang praised the Smart City Corporation and UD Department for successfully executing the projects. They urged residents to utilize the designated parking areas to reduce roadside parking and ease traffic congestion in the city. The multi-level parking facilities are expected to enhance urban mobility and improve the overall commuting experience in Itanagar, supporting the city’s vision of smart and sustainable urban development.
