Watch: Manipur MMA fighter Chungreng Koren appeals PM Narendra Modi to visit violence hit state, urges for peace restoration
Northeast Desk, 11th March: Chungreng Koren, a talented mixed martial artist hailing from Manipur, recently clinched the title of interim bantamweight champion at Matrix Fight Night (MFN). However, instead of reveling solely in his personal triumph, Koren chose to use his platform to shed light on the dire situation unfolding in his home state.
In a poignant moment captured on video, Koren emotionally dedicated his championship belt to Manipur, a region grappling with violent clashes and unrest. Expressing concern for his fellow Manipuris, Koren appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and restore peace to the troubled region. He extended a heartfelt invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Manipur, emphasizing the urgent need for stability and tranquility amidst the turmoil.
The impassioned plea from Koren comes amidst ongoing ethnic violence that has plagued Manipur since May of the previous year, resulting in numerous casualties and displacement of thousands. The escalation of violence follows protests against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, further exacerbating tensions and instability in the region.
