Watch: Sikkim Minister Braves Teesta River Rapids via Zip-line to Reach Chungthang

Northeast Desk, 8th October: A video capturing the fearless act of Sikkim Minister Samdup Lepcha as he crossed the Teesta River using a zip-line has gained widespread attention on social media. The footage shows Minister Lepcha courageously navigating the turbulent Teesta River, facing substantial risks amidst the strong currents. There was a moment when he became suspended mid-air, nearly touching the raging waters of the river.

Samdup Lepcha, who represents the Lachen-Mangan constituency, including Chungthang, undertook this daring journey to reach the town of Chungthang, which has been severely affected by flash floods in the State. The critical Teesta State-III Dam in Chungthang has been completely washed away by the floods, and the area has lost road access. In response, the Minister led a team on a challenging trek from Mangan to Chungthang on foot.
