Weather Alert for Sikkim: Anticipated Rainfall and Snowfall from 15th to 18th January 2024
Northeast Desk, 13th January: In light of the approaching Western Disturbances from the Western Himalayan region and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, Sikkim is expected to experience rainfall and snowfall activities from 15th to 18th January 2024. The detailed forecast is as follows:
15th January 2024:
- Light rainfall/snowfall (at higher altitudes) expected at one or two places in Gangtok, Gyalshing, Mangan, and Soreng districts.
16th January 2024:
- Light to moderate rainfall/snowfall (at higher altitudes) likely at many places in the Mangan district.
- Light rainfall/snowfall (at higher altitudes) expected at a few places in Gangtok, Gyalshing, Soreng, and one or two places in Namchi and Pakyong districts.
17th – 18th January 2024:
- Light to moderate rainfall/snowfall (at higher altitudes) expected at many places in the Mangan district.
- Light rainfall/snowfall (at higher altitudes) likely at a few places in Gangtok, Gyalshing, Soreng, and one or two places in Namchi.
- Light rainfall anticipated at one or two places in the Pakyong district.
Possible Impacts:
- Blockage of roads due to rainfall/snowfall.
- Reduction in visibility.
- Potential damage to horticulture and standing crops.
