Weekend Curfew: Roads empty, markets shut in Delhi
Guwahati: As the weekend curfew took effect in the New Delhi city on Saturday morning, roads, markets, and buses were mostly deserted.
Apart from vital service providers like pharmacies, grocery stores, hospitals, some restaurants, police stations, and banks, the bulk of residents in the national capital appeared to have remained at home.
In most parts of the city, there were few passengers on public transportation vehicles, including buses. Only around large hospitals such as AIIMS and Safdarjung were more individuals seen riding public transportation.
All major markets — Sarojini Nagar, Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, Chandni Chowk — closed their shutters.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police set up checkpoints throughout central and southern Delhi, frequently stopping vehicles and demanding confirmation that their movement is ‘important.’
