Weightlifter Bindyarani Devi Wins Silver at CWG 2022

Guwahati: Bindyarani Devi won a silver medal in the women’s 55 kg final at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday with a total lift of 202 kg.

In her first attempt in a snatch, Bindyarani lifted 81 kg in the women’s 55 kg division. She successfully lifted 84 kg on her second try without breaking a sweat. The weightlifter successfully snatched the 86 kg in her final try in the snatch division.

Bindyarani’s first try in the Clean and Jerk lift category saw her lift 110 kg. She failed to lift the 114 kg in her second attempt.

She successfully lifted the weight on her final try in category 116 kg to win the silver medal for India and place fourth overall.

Bindyarani set a CWG record in the clean and jerk round with this accomplishment.

In the clean and jerk event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships, Bindyarani took home the gold.

Earlier, in the day, India’s Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg weightlifting competition. She had a dominant run, setting both the CWG record and her own personal best with an aggregate weight of 201 kg.
