Guwahati: In a tragic incident, at least 10 persons were killed while several others sustained severe injuries after a pick-up van, they were travelling allegedly got electrocuted in Cooch Behar of West Bengal on Sunday night.
The pick-up van was reportedly carrying passengers to Jalpesh. The wiring of the generator for the DJ system in the van is thought to be the cause of the disaster.
Immediately following the incident, the passengers were taken to the hospital where 16 out of the 27 people in the vehicle were sent to Jalpaiguri hospital for treatment since they had suffered minor injuries.
10 persons were declared dead by the attending medical officer of the Jalpaiguri hospital.
According to reports, all of the passengers were from the Sitalkuchi PS region, and their families have been informed about the tragic incident.
The police claim that vehicle has been seized but the driver has escaped.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway into the incident.
