West Bengal BJP Leaders Stage Protest Over Alleged Scams by TMC, Arrested
Guwahati: State police apprehended a number of BJP officials on Tuesday after they took part in a sizable demonstration in West Bengal.
The leaders reportedly protested the alleged corruption of the Trinamool Congress administration. They were marching in protest in the direction of Kolkata’s “Nabanna” state secretariat.
The state police halted the opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee, Rahul Sinha, and other party leaders as they approached the Second Hooghly Bridge close to “Nabanna.”
The prisoners’ vehicle was used to transport the protesters.
While the protestors and security personnel fought near Howrah Bridge, the police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
In addition to burning a police vehicle, the protesters also apprehended many BJP members after the skirmishes.
Notably, a sizable contingent of BJP supporters from all over the state gathered in Kolkata and Howrah this morning to participate in the “Nabanna Abhijan,” or march to secretariat.
“Chief Minister Mamata does not have the backing of her people, thus she is enforcing tyranny, akin to North Korea,” Adhikari stated as he was being dragged by the police. The police will be held accountable for its actions. The BJP is on its way.
Several TMC leaders have received summonses from the Enforcement Directorate in recent months regarding alleged schemes.
