West Jaintia Hills Dominate 6th Meghalaya Games 2025, Showcasing Stellar Performances
Shillong: The 6th Meghalaya Games 2025 witnessed electrifying athletic competitions at Wahiajer Stadium, with West Jaintia Hills emerging as the standout performer.
The district dominated several events, cementing its status as a powerhouse in the state’s sporting arena.
Henry Yoga A. Sangma of North Garo Hills claimed the Best Athlete (Men) award with a stunning 100m sprint, clocking in at 11.15 seconds and earning 842 points.
On the women’s side, West Jaintia Hills’ Damika R. Lyngdoh stole the spotlight, winning the Best Athlete (Women) award after completing the 400m race in 1:02.37 seconds and scoring 760 points.
The Best Promising Athlete award was bagged by Ri-Bhoi’s Joytiful Narlong, whose long jump of 4.75 meters secured 730 points.
The highlight of the event was the thrilling Mixed Relay race, where West Jaintia Hills clinched the top spot with a record-breaking time of 4:00.74 seconds.
The team, consisting of Renaldi Dhar, Damika R. Lyngdoh, Kyrshanlang Shylla, and Himonki Khaii, outpaced East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi, who finished second and third with times of 4:11.15 seconds and 4:16.79 seconds, respectively.
West Jaintia Hills continued its stellar run with Kyrshanlang Shylla winning the men’s 200m race in 23.96 seconds and Damika R. Lyngdoh taking first place in the women’s 200m event with a time of 28.16 seconds. The district’s dominance in the Mixed Relay event further underscored its athletic prowess.
Other remarkable performances included Ri Bhoi’s Skhemlang Suba, who triumphed in the men’s 1500m race with a time of 4:16.27 seconds, and Daplin Wahlang of South West Khasi Hills, who claimed the women’s 1500m title, finishing in 5:25.22 seconds.
The Javelin Throw event saw exceptional displays of strength, with Ri Bhoi’s Melibad Kro winning the women’s category with a throw of 28.99 meters, while Tusal M. Sangma of North Garo Hills secured victory in the men’s category with a throw of 48.13 meters.
The Games concluded with West Jaintia Hills asserting its dominance, leaving a lasting impression on the spectators and setting a high standard for athletic excellence in Meghalaya.
