Guwahati: After Panchayat & Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced new regulations in the panchayat areas, Raijor Dol leader and MLA Akhil Gogoi protesting the new rules claimed that the people of the state are not in the favour of such rules.
Speaking to the media, Akhil Gogoi said, “On Tuesday, Ranjeet Dass claimed that from now on people in the rural areas will have to pay a fee for constructing their own houses. Now, this is totally unacceptable!”
He added that people are now being forced to pay taxes over things that were earlier free. “What kind of governance is this?” Gogoi questioned.
He further added, “The minister also claimed that even cultural programs will have to come under a fee procedure. This is another level of unacceptable rule. We will never support this and we want the government to withdraw these new regulations.”
Gogoi questioned, “Why should Assamese people pay tax or fees to celebrate Bihu? Can these be termed as legal?”
Akhil ascertained that he as an MLA and president of the Raijor Dol will keep on protesting this new announcement.
