Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a 56-year-old widow was brutally beaten to death by her own family members for allegedly practising witchcraft in Assam on Sunday.
Two persons have been arrested in connection to the case.
The incident took place at a remote village on the Dhubri-Kokrajhar border of Assam.
The arrestees identified as 28-year-old Naresh Hembrom and Bajan Hembrom.
Police claim that a witch hunt appears to be the cause, but only further investigation will reveal whether there was another reason.
Meanwhile, the dead body of the widow has been sent for post-mortem reports.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
