Winners for the Highest Civilian Awards of Assam 2023 Declared
Guwahati: The names of the winners of the “Asom Baibhav, Asom Sourav and Asom Gourav” awards are revealed by the Assam government.
The recipients of the three awards—”Asom Baibhav, Asom Sourav, and Asom Gourav”—for the years 2022–2023 have been named by the Assam government.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma released the names on January 4, 2023.
The Assam government will present Dr. Tapan Saikia with the Asom Baibhav, the highest civilian honour for the fiscal year 2022-2023.
One of the Deesikha Foundation’s supporters and a resident of Naharkatia, Dibrugarh in Assam, Dr. Tapan Saikia has made significant contributions to raising awareness and promoting early cancer detection in Assam and the NE States. He has been the Prince Aly Khan Hospital’s Head of Medical Oncology and Research Director since June 2004.
He currently serves as the Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre Mumbai’s Director of Oncology Sciences. He participates in numerous professional societies and NGOs and frequently attends Assam Cancer Camps. Additionally, he held MD positions and served as an external examiner at Allahabad University and AIIMS, Delhi.
A financial award of Rs 5 lakhs is given as part of the Asom Baibav award. Additionally, the person is eligible for free medical care for the rest of his life.
The Asom Sourav award, in contrast includes a payout of Rs 4 lakhs and entitles the recipients to up to Rs 3 lakhs in annual government-funded medical care.
This year’s Asom Sourav award recipients are Krishna Roy, Gilbert Sangma, Dr. Binoy Kumar Saikia and Dr. Sashidhar Phukan.
The Asom Gourav award comes with a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakhs and the winner is eligible to receive medical care of up to Rs. 3 lakhs annually.
A total of 13 personalities have been selected for the Asom Gourav award this year- Debajit Barman, Rustom Basumatary, Manje La, Binanda Hatibaruah, Atul Ch Baruah, Shila Gowala, Dr Jogesh Deuri, Dr Pankaj Lal Gogoi, Sarbeswar Basumatary Manthang Hmar, Dayal Goswami, Dr Syed Ifthikar Ahmed and Dr Dhrubajyoti Sharma.
