Winter Session of Parliament: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Submits Adjournment Motion Notice Regarding Investigation into Adani Group
National Desk, 13th December: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on December 13 submitted an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha, calling for a discussion on the investigation into allegations against the Adani Group. Gogoi highlighted that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) initiated an inquiry in 2014, examining claims of over-invoicing by the Adani Group through intermediaries in Singapore and other locations.
He pointed out that since 2016, the DRI has been attempting to obtain transaction documents from Singapore authorities, involving 20 banks linked to Adani’s dealings. However, delays in obtaining Supreme Court permission have hindered progress over the past two years. Gogoi emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and their potential impact on institutional mechanisms.
The adjournment motion also outlined delays in the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) investigation into the Adani Group’s alleged misuse of offshore funds since 2014. Gogoi proposed specific discussion points for the Parliament:
1. Reasons behind the prolonged delay in the DRI investigation into coal imports for major companies.
2. Measures taken by the government to expedite the investigation and ensure its thoroughness.
3. Steps being implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Gaurav Gogoi urged the urgent intervention of the Ministries of Finance and Law and Justice for a prompt resolution of the matter.
