Winter Session of Parliament to begin today with Introduction of 16 Bills

Guwahati: The Parliament’s winter session will begin on Wednesday. The session will have a total of 17 working days.

The winter session of Parliament will have 16 new measures on the agenda of the BJP-led Central government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also anticipated to engage with the media prior to the start of Parliament’s Winter Session.

The Winter Session of Parliament will begin today which will continue till December 29. The scheduling of the Gujarat elections had also caused a month-long delay in the session.

The Lok Sabha will pay respects to the members who passed away during the intersession on the first day.

Among those mourned will be Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the Samajwadi Party who passed away in October following a protracted illness.

As the ex-officio chairman of the Upper House, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will preside over the Rajya Sabha’s inaugural session.

The Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill 2022, the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2022 are a few of the measures scheduled for introduction in the Winter Session of Parliament.

The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) (Amendment) Bill, 2022 aims to alter the parent Act by simplifying various processes so that the greatest number of stakeholders can access it.

The North East Water Management Authority Bill, 2022, seeks to establish a new organisation called the North East Water Management Authority (NEWMA) by dissolving the Brahmaputra Board, an existing Statutory Body established in accordance with the provisions of the Brahmaputra Board Act, 1980, which will eventually be repealed.

Repetitive and out-of-date legislation will be repealed under the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2022.

The National Dental Commission Bill, 2022 and the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022 are two of the additional bills.

The Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill, 2019, which was tabled in Lok Sabha on December 9 and referred to the Standing Committee on External Affairs, is also on the government’s agenda. This year’s report was delivered on February 11.

The Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill aims to implement domestic anti-maritime piracy legislation in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in order to provide the country with the necessary legal framework for the prosecution of individuals for piracy-related crimes committed on high seas outside of India’s territorial jurisdiction.

Earlier on Tuesday, the start of an all-party gathering presided over by Rajnath Singh, the deputy leader of the Lok Sabha and minister of defence.

At the all-party meeting, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress both brought up the problem of widespread unemployment. Congress also brought up the issue of the hasty appointment of the ECI and EWS quota.

Parliament’s monsoon session was held between July 18 and August 8.
