Woman Among Two Arrested for Facebook Post Expressing Desire to Join ULFA

Guwahati: Two people were apprehended for supporting the banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and declaring their intention to enlist in it in the Nagaon district of Assam.

One of the accused identified as 46-year-old Shipra Dutta.

Dutta was arrested from Khachalukhua area of the district. She apparently posted on Facebook about wanting to join the outlawed militant group.

She claimed in her post that “the Assam government and state police have destroyed” her life and that she wants to join the ULFA-(I).

Meanwhile, another individual has been identified as Naba bora who posted a similar statement on Facebook, said he would be joining the rebel organisation and said goodbye to one of his friends.

Bora who is a student, was arrested from Nonoi.

A complaint has been filed against the duo and further investigation is underway.

This is significant since it occurs just days after a Golaghat student named Barshashree Buragohain was released from custody following a police booking under UAPA for a “controversial Facebook post” endorsing the ULFA- (I).

A second semester B.Sc. (mathematics) student from Buragohain was detained by the police when it was claimed that she had written a poem on the anti-talk movement.

Later, she was granted bail and released on July 21.
