Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a woman committed suicide over dowry-related issues inside her husband’s home in Tinsukia district of Assam , on Sunday.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Pompi, and her in-laws pressured her to give them a bed as dowry.
The police were alerted by Pompi’s spouse that she had hanged herself in her Doomdooma home.
But instead of telling Pompi’s family about the incident, Shyam and his family fled by closing the door to their house.
As per reports, locals and family members claimed that it was a premeditated murder rather than a suicide.
Reportedly, an FIR has been filed by Pompi’s family against Shyam’s family.
In conjunction with the FIR filed, the police have started an investigation and detained Shyam Deka.
Notably, Pompi and Shyam Deka got married on August 15, 2020, but it is said that immediately after their union, her husband and in-laws began tormenting her for dowry.
Pompi’s father, who works in Chennai, started accumulating money for a bed to offer them as dowry as she was being pressured by her in-laws.
