Women’s Commission Takes Strong Note of Alleged Assault in Assam

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW) has initiated a suo-motu investigation into a disturbing case of alleged physical assault on an unidentified woman, reportedly involving one Victor Das. The incident has sent shockwaves through the state, prompting the Commission to act swiftly and decisively.

In an official communiqué, the ASCW unequivocally condemned the act, branding it a “heinous act” and voicing grave concerns over the safety and dignity of women across Assam. The Commission underscored the gravity of the situation, stating that such incidents demand immediate attention and robust intervention from all concerned authorities.

A formal suo-motu case, bearing the number ASCW/SM/01/2025, has been registered by the Commission. In its directive, the ASCW has mandated relevant law enforcement and administrative bodies to launch a comprehensive enquiry into the serious allegations. Furthermore, the Commission has stipulated that a detailed enquiry report, along with an action-taken report, be submitted to its office within a stringent 30-day timeframe from the date of receiving its official letter.

The ASCW reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding justice and safeguarding the rights of women throughout Assam. It urged all departments involved to accord the case the utmost urgency and seriousness it rightfully demands, ensuring a thorough and timely resolution to the matter.
