Work on Two-Lane Road Till Myanmar Border to be Started Soon

Guwahati: Construction to be started soon on the two-lane road that runs from Meluri in Nagaland’s Phek district to Avangkhu at the border between India and Myanmar, according to Union Minister L Murugan.

The route would help the border areas prosper, according to Murugan, who on Saturday made history by becoming the first central minister to visit the border village.

The Northeast’s border districts in particular are in need of development, according to the minister of state for information and broadcasting at a public engagement session at the International Trade Centre in Avangkhu.

Murugan who is also the state minister for fisheries, veterinary medicine, and dairying expressed confidence that “growing trade volume and better connectivity” will lead to increased economic activity at the International Trade Centre.

According to reports, he claimed that the National Livestock Mission has been aiding state entrepreneurs and improving farm infrastructure and technologies in order to combat the expansion of piggeries in Nagaland.

He said that over the preceding nine years, the NLM had provided the state government with financial assistance in the piggery industry totaling about Rs 17.7 crore.

To assess the situation, the MoS and other authorities travelled to the border between India and Myanmar. In the Phek district’s Chesezu village where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had a camp during World War II, Murugan also paid a visit.

The minister further disclosed that a grant worth Rs 14.99 lakh was given to the Phek district government for the screening of kid-friendly films.

Later, he met with representatives from the ministries of information and broadcasting in Kohima as well as those from the departments of public relations, fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying.
