Yashwant Sinha Receives Warm Welcome in Guwahati

Guwahati: The opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha arrived in Guwahati at around 2:30 pm as part of his trip to Assam to drum up support for his candidacy.

Assam’s opposition party leaders and lawmakers welcomed him warmly when he arrived.

Congress President Bhupen Borah, leader of opposition in the state assembly, Debabrata Saikia, Trinamool Congress President Ripun Borah, legislator Rakibul Hussain among others were present to welcome the presidential candidate.

Congress MLAs Rekibuddin Ahmed and Zakir Hussain Sikdar, along with All India United Democratic Front’s Animul Islam were also present.

Sinha will reportedly travel to Hotel Vivanta from the airport where he is anticipated to dock.

He will thereafter speak at a meeting at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra that has been organised by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.

He is also slated to interact with media personnel here in the evening.

Meanwhile, the opposition camp is confident that Sinha would win the upcoming elections on July 18.

It may be noted the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu had travelled to Assam last week to meet with lawmakers from the ruling BJP and its allies the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) in order to solicit their support.
