Young Woman Found Dead in Guwahati, Family Alleges Murder by In-Laws
GUWAHATI — A woman originally from Uttar Pradesh was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Tarun Nagar, Guwahati, triggering widespread concern and prompting a police investigation into the possibility of foul play.
The deceased, identified as Sangeeta Nishad, was discovered hanging inside her home on June 2. The 26-year-old had married Rajesh Kewat, a resident of Uttar Pradesh currently working with the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), just three months ago on March 7. Although from UP, Rajesh’s family is currently settled in Guwahati.
Sangeeta’s sudden and tragic death has raised serious questions, especially after her family, who rushed from Uttar Pradesh upon receiving the news, alleged ongoing mental harassment by her in-laws since the time of her marriage. Her relatives have lodged an FIR at Bhangagarh Police Station, accusing Rajesh Kewat and his family of orchestrating her death and demanding a thorough investigation into what they believe is a case of murder disguised as suicide.
According to police sources, a detailed probe is underway, and statements from the husband, in-laws, and neighbours are being recorded. The post-mortem report is awaited and is expected to shed further light on the exact cause of death.
The case has sparked public interest and drawn attention to the disturbing pattern of dowry-related and domestic violence cases that continue to emerge even in urban centres. Authorities have assured that all angles are being examined and justice will be pursued based on evidence and findings.
