Youth Congress Stages Protest in Manipur Over Pahalgam Attack, Slams Centre’s Security Lapses
Imphal: Members of the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) staged a protest at the Congress Bhavan in Imphal to honour the victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, while strongly condemning what they termed as glaring security failures by the central government.
The demonstration, led by All India Youth Congress general secretary Sarifa Rahman, was met with resistance from local police, who halted the protesters at the Congress Bhavan gate, resulting in a brief but tense confrontation. The rally was part of a nationwide expression of solidarity with the victims of the deadly attack that claimed 26 civilian lives and injured over 30 others.
Addressing the press, Rahman demanded swift justice and questioned how terrorists managed to strike at a popular tourist destination located far from the border. “How did they infiltrate so easily and vanish within minutes? This points to either local complicity or a serious lapse in intelligence and planning,” she stated.
Rahman further criticised the central government for what she described as insufficient protection for civilians and tourists alike. “The entire nation stands united against terrorism. Congress will not remain silent in the face of such atrocities,” she said, vowing continued political pressure until accountability is ensured.
Drawing a parallel with Manipur’s own ongoing crisis, Rahman highlighted the pervasive insecurity that continues to affect lives and property across the state. She accused the BJP-led government of failing to maintain law and order both in conflict-hit Manipur and in other sensitive regions like Kashmir, calling for immediate remedial action and greater transparency in security operations.
