Youth from Meghalaya Arrested with Hand-made Pistol in Assam’s Goalpara

Guwahati, 31st July: In an alarming incident, a youth from Meghalaya was arrested in the Goalpara district of Assam after a handmade firearm was seized from his possession on Monday. The arrested person is Enamul Haque, who comes from Meghalaya’s Phulbari region. According to sources, police received specific information about Enamul Haque’s presence in the Simolabari area, where he was allegedly attempting to sell firearms. Consequently, the Goalpara Police conducted a search operation at Simolabari Tiniali in Lakhipur, led by the Officer-in-Charge of the Dhumerghat Police Station, leading to the arrest of Enamul.

Earlier in May this year, a significant event occurred in Assam’s Karimganj district, where three young men were apprehended during an operation led by Officer-in-Charge of Badarpur Police Station, Samser Kalowar. The operation, carried out at Naka checking in the Alekargool area, involved the interception of a scooter carrying the three individuals, who were subsequently arrested with a .32mm firearm. The arrested persons are Mumim Uddin, Mohammed Ibrahim, and Jainal Ahmed, and police seized their firearms and the scooter.

During the initial interrogation, the three arrested individuals revealed that the firearm was purchased from Dimapur in Nagaland, and their intention was to sell it in Assam. These incidents highlight the proactive efforts of law enforcement agencies in curbing potential illegal arms dealings in the region and ensuring public safety.
