Guwahati: Sensational prevails as a youth jumped into the Brahmaputra River from the Saraighat Bridge in Guwahati city of Assam on Sunday.
This is suspected to be a fresh case of suicide into the Brahmaputra.
Eye witnesses said that the youth spent around thirty minutes hanging at the bridge’s railing. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with the locals and the city police made all effort to persuade him. However, the youth eventually dove into the river.
The SDRF claims that after the youth jumped into the river, they pursued him with their rescue boats and attempted to give him a life jacket, but he disregarded them and drove in. After a while, he went missing in the waters of the mighty Brahmaputra.
Meanwhile, search operations are underway by the SDRF, Army and the police.
Reportedly, the youth was a resident from Barpeta.
However, the reason behind taking such step and his identity is yet to be known.
