Yumkhaibam Jiteshwor Singh Extends Contract with Chennaiyin FC Until 2025

Northeast Desk, 19th May: Yumkhaibam Jiteshwor Singh, the 22-year-old midfield sensation from Manipur, has signed a contract extension with Indian Super League (ISL) club Chennaiyin FC, securing his stay at the club until 2025. The Chennai-based team announced the deal on May 18.

Expressing his excitement on Twitter, Singh stated, “It’s exciting to stay at Chennaiyin FC for another season. After qualifying for the playoffs this season, we aim to achieve even more next time. This club is the perfect environment for me to grow and learn from some of the best coaches and players. I have made significant progress over the past few years and intend to keep advancing in my career.”

Since joining Chennaiyin FC in 2022, Jiteshwor has become a pivotal player in the midfield. His strong defensive performances, highlighted by a team-high 25 successful tackles and 14 interceptions in the previous ISL season, have earned him high praise from the club’s management and coaching staff.

Head coach Owen Coyle praised Jiteshwor’s blend of tenacity and technical skill, emphasizing that he is a crucial part of the team’s future plans. “Jitu was never going anywhere,” Coyle affirmed.

Jiteshwor, who represented India at the AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualification last year, reiterated his enthusiasm about continuing with Chennaiyin FC. He emphasized the club’s role in his development and the positive environment provided by the coaches and players.

The extension of Jiteshwor’s contract is a significant milestone for Manipuri football, highlighting his talent and serving as an inspiration for aspiring footballers from the state. With 44 matches for Chennaiyin FC across all competitions, including 23 in the last season, Jiteshwor’s journey in the ISL is poised for further success.
