Zoram People’s Movement Dominates Mizoram Assembly Elections 2023; Lalchhuanthanga Triumphs in AIZAWL SOUTH-II (ST)

Northeast Desk, 4th December: In a sweeping victory, Lalchhuanthanga of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) secured a resounding mandate in the AIZAWL SOUTH-II (ST) constituency during the Mizoram Assembly Elections 2023, garnering 9117 votes. Dr. Lalmalsawma Nghaka of the Indian National Congress and Denghmingthanga of the Mizo National Front trailed with 7478 and 5352 votes, respectively.

Lalchhuanthanga’s triumph in AIZAWL SOUTH-II (ST) contributes to the growing momentum of the ZPM in the state. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Zoramthanga faced a significant upset in Aizawl East I, conceding defeat to Lalthansanga of ZPM with a margin of 2101 votes.

ZPM’s influence echoed across Mizoram as K Sapdanga secured a landslide victory in Aizawl North III with a margin of 1800 votes, reshaping the political landscape since the party’s inception in 2018.

In a testament to the party’s diverse success, rising star Jeje Lalpekhlua won the South Tuipui Assembly constituency by a slim margin of 135 votes, highlighting the Zoram People’s Movement’s appeal among the youth.

Further bolstering ZPM’s triumph, party leader Lalduhoma clinched victory in the Serchhip constituency, fueling speculations about the party forming the government. Reports suggest Lalduhoma is set to meet the Governor for discussions on government formation.

In a separate development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made its mark as K Hrahmo secured victory in the Palak constituency, winning by a margin of 1,241 votes. The saffron party’s influence is on the rise, leading in another constituency and signaling its growing impact on Mizoram politics.
