Zubeen Garg Firmly Opposes Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) Despite Criticism

Guwahati, 27th March: Renowned Assamese musician Zubeen Garg has once again expressed his staunch opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), rebuffing criticism from fellow artist Manas Robin. Garg’s unwavering stance against the controversial law, which originated in 2017, remains resolute.

In response to recent remarks by Manas Robin, Garg reaffirmed his apolitical stance while reiterating his commitment to opposing the CAA, irrespective of political affiliations or societal pressures. Addressing concerns regarding his position, Garg emphasized that merely expressing dissent on social media platforms like Facebook is futile, asserting that genuine opposition to the CAA equates to opposing the government.

During a press conference at the Dispur Press Club, Garg delivered a statement titled “কা’ৰ বিষয়ে মোৰ ক’বলগীয়া” (My Statement on CAA), publicly denouncing the law as “useless” and pledging to continue protesting against it through various platforms, including stage performances and social media.

Reflecting on Assam’s historical struggles, Garg evoked past agitations and sacrifices, vowing to prevent further loss of life, particularly among the youth. He emphasized the significance of peaceful protests against the CAA, highlighting Assam’s enduring heritage of resistance.

The exchange between Zubeen Garg and Manas Robin underscores the ongoing discourse surrounding the CAA within Assam’s artistic and cultural circles. Garg’s reaffirmation of his opposition to the law signals continued activism on the issue, amplifying voices against what many perceive as a threat to Assam’s identity and heritage.
