108 Brokers Held in Drive Against Sale of Fake Train Tickets in Guwahati
Guwahati: As many as 108 brokers were apprehended in a raid against ticket brokers engaged in the black marketing of train tickets on Monday in Guwahati.
The Railway Protection Force has taken a number of actions to prevent unauthorised ticket purchases and sales.
The police found tickets that were worth more than Rs 31.66 lakh.
The brokers were offering black tickets for sale from April to December 2022.
According to the authorities, this anti-touting operation will continue in light of the increased passenger demand so that travellers can readily access tickets.
Additionally, they urged rail travellers to avoid falling prey to ticket brokers and only purchase their tickets from authorised agencies, websites and booking windows.
About 300 agents were arrested countrywide in 2022 for daily illegal cornering of tens of thousands of tickets on major thoroughfares.
Agents affiliated to the gang used a software that allowed them to bypass not only security clearances like CAPTCHA that detects bots but also the process of OTP generation and submission. This gave the gang’s agents an advantage of around 30 seconds over other travel agents and individual customers, allowing them to corner hundreds of thousands of tickets before others could even log-in.
