11 dead, 36 others injured in a fire at a cracker factory in Tamil Nadu

Around 11 people have been killed and 36 others were seriously in a fire at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar on Friday. The total death toll of people likely to go up as the condition of some injured are seriously injured.

According to reports the fire in the factory in Achankulam near Sattur in Virudhunagar broke out when some chemicals were being mixed to produce firecrackers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was saddened by the incident and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for families of the deceased. Tamil Nadu’s CM Edappadi Palaniswami also announced ₹3 lakh each for families of the deceased.
