15-Year-Old drown in river in Assam’s Dibrugarh
Guwahati: A 15-year-old girl has drowned to death in the Brahmaputra River at upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Dipali Karmakar who was a resident of Maijan Tea estate of the district.
According to reports, the girl along with her sister Tarulata Karmakar went for a walk near the river yesterday evening.
Reportedly, Dipali was unfortunately washed away in the river owing to erosion.
Her sister attempted but failed to save her.
A police team from Dibrugarh rushed to the spot and the SDRF has started the search operation but is yet to recover her.
“The SDRF team began a search operation, but she has yet to be found. It had been an awful occurrence. After learning of the occurrence, we went to the scene,” a police official stated.
Dibrugarh district project officer of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) Deepjyoti Hatikakoti said, “Due to the latest wave of flood in Dibrugarh, Dodhia forest village was inundated. 4587 people were displaced, and 3.50 hectares of crops were flooded. So far, no relief camps have been established.”
The Dibrugarh Town Protection Drain (DTP) has been pouring across roads in some parts of Dibrugarh town.
People have clogged the drains by throwing junk down them.
Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra was running at 105.14 metres in Dibrugarh, much below the danger level of 105.70 metres.
