16 bodies recovered from site of plane crash in Nepal

Guwahati: The search and rescue team said on Monday that no survivors had been found at the crash site, a day after a twin-engine plane carrying 22 passengers crashed in Nepal’s Mustang district.

A squad of 15 Nepali Army soldiers was dropped near the crash scene and 16 remains were recovered.

According to reports, the crash site is located at an elevation of 14,500 feet, while the team was dropped from a height of 11,000 metres.

The bodies will be transferred to Kathmandu for a post-mortem, according to officials.

A passenger plane operated by a private airline in Nepal went missing on Sunday, carrying 22 persons, four of whom were Indians.

A Tara Air 9 NAET twin-engine aircraft lost communication while en route to the Jomsom airport while flying over Pokhara, around 200 kilometres northwest of Kathmandu.

The aircraft which was on a 17-minute planned flight, lost communication shortly after take-off at 9:55 am local time. The wreckage of the plane was later discovered near Kowang in Nepal’s Mustang on Sunday evening.

Two private helicopters from Mustang and Pokhara had been dispatched by the Union Home Ministry to assist in the search for the missing plane. A Nepal Army chopper was also dispatched to assist in the search.

Meanwhile, bits of the wreckage of the passenger plane that crashed on Sunday morning were discovered at 14,500 feet in Sano Sware Bhir of Thasang in Mustang region in northwestern Nepal, some 20 hours after the plane went missing.
