Assam: Teacher forced to kneel down
Guwahati: A teacher was allegedly forced to kneel down and apologize in front of her students who were protesting against a fee hike, prompting the district administration to seek a magisterial level investigation at Philobari in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
A video has gone viral where it can clearly be seen that a female teacher lying down on the road in front of demonstrating children with her arms folded, causing the opposition Congress to criticize her.
The incident took place when the students from Philobari Senior Secondary School were protesting a rumoured fee increase.
On October 11, the students held a protest and blocked the road heading towards the school. The teachers tried to calm the students and clear the blockade, however, this ended in clashes between the two sides. It got to a point where one of the professors was apparently asked to kneel in front of the children to apologize for allegedly making a nasty remark about the demonstration.
According to reports, a senior official from the state’s All Assam College Students Union (AASU), identified as Karna Buragohain who was among the protestors has been expelled from the organization for allegedly inciting the agitated college students.
Buragohain was expelled for his alleged involvement in inciting the agitating students to force the teacher to prostrate and apologize.
Meanwhile, the executive magistrate of Doomdoma revenue circle has been ordered by the Tinsukia district magistrate on October 14 to undertake an investigation into the incident and submit a report within three days of receiving the order.
It may be mentioned that the investigation will find all the information of the persons who were involved in or instigated the incident, and the Tinsukia inspector of faculties will assist with the inquiry.
