Guwahati: At least two youths were taken into police custody for allegedly raping and assaulting a minor in Hailakandi district of Assam, police informed on Thursday.
The incident occurred on July 15 at Kanchiala village under the Ramnathpur police station.
The accused identified as Abul Hussain and Salim Uddin.
According to a senior official, both of them were arrested after continuous raids.
“Two youths had sexually assaulted a minor in the Kanchiala village forest,” Hailakandi district superintendent of police (SP) Gaurav Upadhyay said.
“The region is entirely a very secluded wooded environment. All of the senior cops hurried to the scene right away since we had taken the situation very seriously. We had been conducting constant raids, he said.
The Hailakandi SP stated, “We detained both the suspects on Wednesday night, and both are from the victim’s village.”
He added that additional inquiries were being conducted into the incident and more information will be revealed soon.
