2 More Accused Nabbed From Sipajhar In Ranjit Bora Murder Case

Guwahati: Guwahati Police on Sunday arrested two people who have been named as the prime suspects in the case involving the daylight murder of businessman Ranjit Bora.

The police had already made a number of arrests in connection with the murder of Ranjit Bora in the Panjabari area of Guwahati in November of last year.

The two suspects were reportedly taken into custody by Guwahati Police from Sipajhar in Assam’s Darrang district.

They are suspected of being the individuals who arrived in the two-wheeler, drew up in front of the car in which Bora was riding in and opened fire on him, fleeing with his briefcase loaded with cash.

It may be noted that on November 21, when Ranjit Bora, the manager of local dairy company Purabi Dairy was headed to the bank to deposit money, two bike-borne miscreants arrived and opened fire at him in the Panjabari area in broad daylight and fled with the money. Bora was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries.

Dispur Police detained two individuals that evening as they continued their investigation and held them for questioning.

On November 24, the Guwahati Police announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakhs for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the heinous crime.

Taking to social media platforms, the Guwahati Police’s handle has issued the informatory, providing a contact number for people to pass information to the police. “Information can be shared on WhatsApp 6026901247,” the post read.

The police arrested four other suspects based on information they had received on November 25. Two staff members of the Bamboo Heights Multi-Cuisine Restaurant in Guwahati were among those arrested by the police.

They said that despite the fact that they had no knowledge of the occurrence; the police had wrongfully detained them and interrogated them for hours.

The two detainees, Rashidul Ali and Raja Das claimed that the police began harassing them when they were unable to elicit any information from them. They said that the police had continued to harass them by interrogating them for hours about numerous other instances that they had no connection to, and that as a result, they had become social outcasts and were regularly the target of discrimination.

Later on December 5, Dispur Police arrested Amir Ali from Morigaon in Assam in connection with the murder investigation. He was taken into custody following instructions from the Guwahati Commissioner of Police.

The police released a statement saying the following day that Ali had been identified as the prime accused in the case. Ali was taken into custody at his in-laws’ residence in Morigaon. During interrogation, he revealed that he was the mastermind of the attack that killed Ranjit Bora, police said.

Ali has many cases registered against him in Guwahati including robbery and battery.

Reports claimed, he was also a police informant at one point.

Police added that a manhunt has been launched to find each and every member of the gang that Amir led, which had between 10 and 15 members and operated within the city.

The bike that was used in the murder was also found at Amir’s in-laws’ house.
