2 Nabbed For Sexually Abusing Minor Girl In Guwahati

Guwahati: Two of the three accused in the alleged gang rape of a minor girl were arrested by police in Guwahati on Thursday, while the third accused remained absconding.

The unfortunate incident occurred in Guwahati’s Barsapara locality. Police claimed that the accused sexually assaulted the girl, recorded the entire incident and then used the footage to blackmail the child.

The two arrested accused identified as  Biki Ali and Babar Ali by the officials. Meanwhile, the third accused, Biki Saha is at large, but police are keeping the search on for him.

The Panbazar All Women Police Station has received a case against the three accused. Following the minor girl’s medical evaluation, authorities stated that an inquiry into the case had been initiated.

The heinous incident occurred as all of Assam celebrated Uruka, on the night of January 14. The three accused youths allegedly beat her up physically before abusing her sexually.

They also threatened the girl with posting the footage of the entire incident online if she told anyone about it. The entire incident was also captured on a mobile phone.

The incident only came to light after the survivor told her family about it and they proceeded to the Panbazar Police Station to file a complaint.

Petty crimes are on the rise and there have been 71,061 more reports of crimes against women in Assam during the past six years.

Leader of opposition in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia informed the body on December 20 that statistics from the NCRB indicated an increase in crimes against women.

He said, “From January 1 to December 31, 2021, 26,243 crimes were committed against women in the state. Altogether 21,914 crimes against women were committed in 2020. According to the data, the incidence of rape and kidnapping of women and girls in the state doubled in 2021 compared to 2020.”

“There were 1,736 cases of rape in the state in 2020 and 3,747 cases in 2021. Similarly, in 2020, 4,792 women and girls were abducted in the state in contrast, crime increased to 7,691 in 2021,” added Saikia.
