Assam Police Seizes 600 Bags Of Urea Fertilizer In Hailakandi

Guwahati: The fact that unauthorized trade in fertilizer is continuing in the State was laid bare with the seizure of maasive quantity of urea fertilizer was seized by Panchgram police in Assam’s Hailakandi district.

This was informed by officials on Friday.

Acting on specific information, police officials carried out an operation and intercepted a truck bearing registration number ‘PY-02-V-6013.’

During the operation, a total of 600 sacks of urea along with the truck were seized.

It is learned that the truck laden with subsidized urea was trying to smuggle it out of Assam.

Moreover, the driver and the co-pilot of the truck have been detained by the police on charges of smuggling.

Officials informed that the smugglers attempted to deliver the fertilizer with an invoice for transporting rice.

The estimated cost of the seized urea is said to be worth an estimated Rs 60 lakh.

Meanwhile, both the driver and the co-pilot of the truck have been taken in by the police for questioning in connection with the matter.

An investigation to unearth further linkages is on.
