2 Youths Injured in Firing by Assam Rifles in Arunachal

Guwahati: Two youths were injured in firing by the Assam Rifles in Arunachal Pradesh.

The incident took place in the Tirap district.

The two injured persons have been identified as Naqfawa Wangton and Ramwang Wangsa. Both of them is a resident of Sasa village of Tirap district.

According to reports, jawans from the Assam Rifles opened fire on the youths suspecting them to be terrorists. The teenagers were returning home after they went for fishing.

Following the incident, the youths were immediately rushed to the hospital.

However, the Assam Rifles has taken responsibility of treating the youths.

As per Assam Rifles, the youths will also be transported to Jorhat for advanced treatment. They also unveiled a cash assistance programme for adolescents.

Meanwhile, a top Assam Rifles official said that the incident occurred as a result of their mistake.

It may be mentioned that days after the centre extended the Armed Force Speal Power Act (AFSPA) in three districts of Arunachal Pradesh in which one includes Tirap district, the encounter took place were two youths were shot injured by the Assam Rifles jawan.

Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is an act of the Parliament of India that grants special powers to the Indian Armed Forces to maintain public order in “disturbed areas”
