20 First-Time Candidates Triumph in Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections, BJP Leads with 11 Victories

Northeast Desk, 3rd June: The recent Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections marked a significant political shift with 20 first-time candidates emerging victorious. This diverse group of winners includes representatives from various political parties, prominently led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which secured 11 seats for debutants.

The BJP’s strong showing was followed by the National People’s Party (NPP), which won four seats, and two seats each were claimed by the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Additionally, one independent candidate also emerged victorious, reflecting the electorate’s varied preferences.

Despite a spirited contest, the Indian National Congress experienced a setback, securing only one seat out of the 19 it contested. The Congress’s solitary win came in Bameng, where former State Home Minister Kumar Waii edged past BJP’s Doba Lamnio by a narrow margin of 635 votes.

State Congress President Nabam Tuki expressed disappointment but reaffirmed the party’s commitment to introspect and strengthen its organizational framework in response to the electoral outcome.

The National People’s Party (NPP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also made significant gains, winning five and three seats respectively. The regional People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) secured two seats, underscoring its persistent presence in the state’s political landscape.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, buoyed by the BJP’s resounding victory, hailed the electoral mandate as historic. He emphasized the state’s endorsement of the party’s governance for the next five years, attributing the triumph to the developmental strides witnessed under the BJP-led central government. Khandu expressed confidence in replicating this success in future elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for their decisive mandate. He reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to serving the state’s interests and fostering inclusive growth, promising continued support for Arunachal Pradesh’s development.
