26 Rohingyas Detained in Assam’s Silchar

Guwahati: At least 26 suspected Rohingyas have been detained by the Silchar police on Sunday morning.

According to reports, the team travelled by train from Delhi to Kamakhya station in Guwahati, then by road in two Innova vehicles to Silchar, arriving in the early hours of today.

The detainees include eight women, six men, and 12 children make up the 26-member team.

However, the have not confessed why they travelled to Silchar. They are being questioned at the Silchar police station right now.

It has been revealed that during Myanmar’s persecution of Rohingya Muslims, all of them fled the nation and sought asylum in Jammu and Kashmir. They then migrated to Delhi after a few years, and then to Assam.

The Rohingya, one of Myanmar’s many ethnic minorities, have been described by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as “one of, if not the, most discriminated people in the world.”

The Rohingya are one of Myanmar’s many ethnic minorities, with a population of roughly one million at the start of 2017. The Rohingya Muslims make up the bulk of Myanmar’s Muslim population, with the majority living in Rakhine state.

They have their own language and culture, and claim to be descended from generations of Arab traders and other ethnicities who have lived in the region.
