Passenger train services between India and Bangladesh resume today

Guwahati: After a two-year hiatus owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, passenger rail services between India and Bangladesh resumed on Sunday (May 29).

“The Kolkata – Dhaka – Kolkata Maitree Express and Kolkata – Khulna – Kolkata Bandhan Express will resume operation on May 29 for the convenience of travellers in India and Bangladesh,” said Ekalabya Chakraborty, Chief Public Relations Officer, Eastern Railway.

The officials also informed that Mitali Express, the third India-Bangladesh train service, will begin operating on June 1 from New Jalpaiguri to Dhaka.

Tickets for these trains have already been sold out due to high demand.

“Passengers from Bangladesh travel to the United States for a variety of reasons, including tourism, medical care, and shopping. On the first day, only 19 people boarded the Bandhan Express, whereas roughly 100 people boarded the Maitree Express,” said HN Gangopadhyay, PRO & Assistant Commercial Manager, Eastern Railway Sealdah as quoted by ANI.
