5 Bihu artistes who died in road mishap in Assam’s Biswanath, driver surrenders

Guwahati: The driver who lost his control of the vehicle in northern Assam’s Biswanath district last Saturday has surrendered before the Amguri police station on Monday.

The driver identified as Abhijit Gogoi who is a resident of Amguri in Sivasagar district.

According to reports, Gogoi was allegedly driving the four-wheeler vehicle in an inebriated condition.

Notably, five minors died on spot and several got injured in a road incident at national highway 15 in Biswanath district of Assam on Saturday night.
The incident took place at the Tokobari area near Gohpur, under Helem Police station.

The deceased were identified as Radhika Daimary, Buddhimoti Boro, Bornali Boro, Sanjay Basumatary and Kalimon Basumatary. All of them is the resident of North Karibeel in Kosarigaon village of the district.

Reportedly, a group of 20 boys and girls had gone to perform Husori at Rangajan in Gohpur when the accident took place as the driver of the four-wheeler pickup van in which they were coming, lost control and the vehicle overturned.

The injured people had been admitted to the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Amguri police has taken Abhijit Gogoi into custody.

It may be mentioned that the driver has been living in Helem under Biswanath district for the past 11 years.
