5 people killed as Sikkim car rams into group of pilgrims in West Bengal

Northeast Desk, 12th August: In a tragic incident near Muni Tea Estate, Bagdogra, West Bengal, at least five people were killed and several others injured when a Sikkim-registered vehicle ran over a group of pilgrims on August 12. The victims, known as Kawadiyas, were en route to the Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple to offer prayers when the accident occurred.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, a Scorpio with the registration number SK-08-P07307, was speeding when it veered off course and struck the pilgrims who were walking along the side of the road. The impact of the crash led to immediate fatalities, leaving the local community in shock.

In response to the incident, enraged locals blocked the road, demanding immediate action. Authorities were swiftly informed, and police and fire brigade officers promptly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue and relief operations.

As efforts continue, the community and officials are working together to provide aid to the injured and bring the situation under control. The tragic event has cast a somber mood over the region, as families and residents grapple with the loss of life and the severity of the accident.
