7 Including Top NF Railway Official Arrested By CBI

Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested seven suspects on Sunday in connection with a bribery case involving Rs. 50 lakhs, including an Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Guwahati, a contractor, a hawala operator, a bribe-giver, etc.

A case was registered against an Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM), Guwahati and other private persons including contractors etc. It was claimed that the defendants conspired to grant unauthorized favours to private contractors for the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) construction project, the measurement book preparation, the processing of running account bills, the early release of payment against outstanding bills and the early release of security deposits and bank guarantees.

Moreover, it was claimed that the ADRM in Guwahati routinely demanded and accepted unfair advantages from different contractors while serving as the NFR’s Chief Engineer of Construction in New Jalpaiguri.

Additionally, it was claimed that a contractor was assisting in the delivery of the bribe to ADRM, Guwahati, by knowing a hawala operator in Delhi.

A trap was set by the CBI and a friend of the ADRM in Guwahati was apprehended while taking a bribe of Rs. 50 Lakh sent through a hawala channel on behalf of the aforementioned ADRM. These private individuals as well as the ADRM were apprehended.

Searches at the offices of ADRM and other parties in a number of cities, including Delhi, Narora, Guwahati, Siliguri, and Aligarh resulted in the recovery of laptops, roughly Rs. 47 lakh in cash, and several damning papers.

All the arrested accused will be produced today before the competent court.
