7 Kidnappers Held By Assam Police

Guwahati: Assam Police arrested at least seven kidnappers from Biswanath district.

This was informed by the police on Thursday.

One woman identified as Manju Basumatary was reportedly abducted from Milan Nagar in Gohpur by a group of seven people on two bikes and a Bolero car on December 18 at 6.30 pm.

When the police were notified of the kidnapping incident by the locals, they immediately rushed to the spot and alerted the area. The police made an attempt to pursue the car, but were unsuccessful. The kidnappers observed police pursuing them and tossed Manju from the car around 11 o’clock at night.

The seven-member gang which included two women was arrested by the police as they continued their investigation.

The accused who were involved in the kidnapping have been identified as Manju’s eldest daughter’s boyfriend Rohit Basumatary, Jingsa Basumatary, Bimal Wary, James Basumatary, Charsangsa Basumatary, Prakash Narzary, Rourip Wary and Jonali Basumatary.

Out of these eight, Rohit is currently absconding.

The arrested kidnappers are being questioned by the police.

The Officer-in-Charge of Gohpur Police Station said, “We arrested the kidnappers, including to two women, from various locations of Udalguri during continuous separate operations. We have lodged a case against them under several sections of the Indian Penal Code.”
